Aluminium Cans
![]() We have a large cage and several bins where children can put empty aluminium cans. We encourage children to recycle cans at school and to bring cans from home every Thursday. Each class gets points for the cans. The classes with the most points in one week can each have a cuddly orangutan toy in their class for the rest of the week. The classes with the most points in one month can each have a free 'mufti' day. The money made from selling the cans to a recycling company is sent to environmental projects in Borneo. Paper
With the aim of trying to reduce the wastage of paper in schools and to dispose of the wasted paper so that it can be recycled. The school has set up a paper recycling scheme. The student council have set up boxes in each classroom for ‘Reuse’ and ‘Recyle’. Students are being encouraged to use the paper for reuse for draft planning and printing. Once the paper is no longer reusable it can then be recycled. Monthly the student council representatives collect the recycle paper for classrooms which can then go in the main blue recycle bins around the school. Newspapers and magazines can also be recycled. If you have any old newspapers or magazines at home, please send them in with your child or place them in the blue bins yourselves. Plastic
To reduce the amount of waste we create, ISB is at present collecting two types of plastic for recycling PET(E) and HDPE. These plastics include water and fizzy drink bottles, toiletries, cleaning fluid containers, in fact all types of groceries. Before you throw any plastics away, please check for the recycling sign. If it is made from PET(E) or HDPE, rinse out the container and bring it to school! Plastic day is on Friday although we encourage recycling everyday!
