Malawi Fundraising

On the 24th June 2008, yr 5 students, student councillors and the team captains of International School of Brunei held a fundraiser at ISB  to raise money to help supplement health care through the St Andrews hospital in the Mtunthama region of Malawi.  This hospital helps 35, 000 people with some having to travel up to 80kms for health care.  Further information about the hospital can be found at http://www.medicmalawi.org.  This is a personal interest of one ISB teacher who used to teach in Malawi.
Students were able to make good use of skills learned in their recent advertising unit to promote the event.  Among the many activities there was a hugely successful stall selling second-hand items donated by the students. Other activities were Guess the teddy’s name, Guess how many sweets in the jar, face-painting, henna hands, Beat the goalie and the colouring competition. The children had a chance to have a free-dress day by donating $1.00 to the school.
The $1400 raised will go to the clinic in Malawi. The adults usually die of Aids or other diseases and leave their children to the orphanage.
