ALL ABOUT ISB
Welcome to About ISB
Welcome to the ISB Website which I hope is going to give you a useful insight into our school community and life for young people in Brunei.
Those of us who have lived in Brunei for some time are very conscious of its 'safe haven' status in a region fraught with political tension. Brunei enjoys a political and social harmony, which is reflected in the comfortable interaction of the various communities at ISB.
Although there are over 30 nationalities represented in the school from a broad variety of cultural backgrounds, they share the common goal of working together in preparing for adult roles that are far less predictable than they were a generation ago. Flexible learning, team building and leadership skills are consistent threads running through a curriculum with a strong emphasis on technology and languages as well as traditional subjects in the Sciences, Arts and Humanities.
We pride ourselves on the welcoming atmosphere that we engender. Students joining us from overseas and from the local community immediately feel the sense of warmth and ease of interaction within our school. Preparing young people to be global citizens while stressing the importance of their own cultural heritage, is one of our most important aims. Although our curriculum is derived from the English national system, the introduction of the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme in 2001 assisted us in our pursuit of a more global outlook, at the same time achieving greater interaction with the host country culture. We value our host country communities and purposely endeavour to reach out, through school and community based initiatives, as a way of reciprocating their kindness and hospitality.
ISB is proud to be serving Brunei Darussalam as the only fully accredited international school on Borneo.*
*Accredited by the Council of International Schools in February 2005

Executive Principal
At the International School Brunei, we welcome all students into a warm and caring community and offer a quality education that recognises their individual needs
We foster independent thinking and learning to prepare students for a changing world
We nurture respect for, and a responsible attitude towards, school society and the environment
The school caters for students aged two to eighteen. Application for admission should be made on the Registration Form which can be downloaded from the link below or collected from the school main office and must be accompanied by a fee of $150 Brunei dollars (non-refundable). Registration does not guarantee a place in the school.
All applicants are reminded that the medium of instruction is English and a working knowledge of spoken English is essential before admission. Minimum proficiency levels for non-native speakers have been established. All applicants will be assessed for correct year placement.
Children enter Kindergarten in September, if their fourth birthday falls in that school year (beginning 1st September).
New arrivals to the school may be admitted during the school year provided there is an appropriate programme to meet the needs of that student and there is room within that level.
THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION and THE IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT require all students to be registered. STUDENT PASS Application form is available at the Main Office.

The school is now at the end of a very busy academic year, and has completed a vigorous self-study. The self-study looked at many aspects of the school both operational and educational. The outcome of this self-study is a report which is sent to the CIS Head Office in Madrid, Spain and to the visiting team which consists of administrators and teachers from other international schools in Asia. For a summary of the overall report please click here. This outlines the main ratings of whether we as a school feel we are meeting, not meeting or exceeding the standards outlined by CIS. Following from this, the School has had a closer look at its strengths and weaknesses in each of these areas and outlined a plan for improvement. For a summary report please click here.
For more details of the final report, one copy will be available in the Main Office (from 1st September onwards) for you to look through and notice boards will be updated on a regular basis with further information.
The report will be sent off to the visiting CIS team in September 2004 and the school will prepare for the team visit which will take place during the week beginning 25th October 2004.

(you will need Adobe Acrobat to read the attachments). To download Adobe Acrobat please click here

ISB has been awarded accreditation status from the Council of International Schools (CIS). This follows a one year self study period followed by a nine member team visit in October 2004.
ISB is the first school in Borneo to successfully complete the process. The award of CIS accreditation status reflects the school matching or exceeding internationally agreed standards. As such, parents and prospective parents can be assured that ISB offers an educational experience that is of the highest standard.
