Welcome to ISB and thank you for your interest in our school. We are a highly regarded international school, situated in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. At the present time we are in the midst of an exciting design process for our new multi-million dollar campus a few miles away, due for completion in June 2014. The already existing high levels of educational provision will benefit even further from access to this new sports, theatre and academic accommodation and we are certainly looking forward to the move. The new campus will also build on our present quality boarding facility so the warm welcome to the school is also extended to students from other areas of Brunei and from other countries.
As you explore our website, or if you have the time to visit our campus, you will gain a fuller insight into what makes ISB so special. You will see fully engaged and happy students. You will also see dedicated and talented teachers from twenty-three different countries challenging and supporting their students; all framed within internationally recognized curricula which offer a wide variety of accredited courses from IGCSE to the International Baccalaureate Diploma in Years 10-13. Primary and lower secondary phases (K-Year 9) follow a UK curriculum, adapted to fit the needs of the international and local communities. Our primary section is very well-regarded both nationally and in the wider Asian region, with Early Years a particular strength of ISB.
Our view of education is a simple one; it places the young person at the centre of all we do. We believe that every young person has the right to enjoy their education, to succeed in the school, however that success is measured. We endeavour to build up their self-belief to become a self-confident, engaged person, with the necessary skills to enhance their future life prospects. This means we have to ensure that our young people recognize and appreciate that international education is a vital advantage in a competitive world and that ISB has their best interests above all other considerations. Staff, students and parents will together help to create this caring, stimulating and challenging educational experience.
Translated practically, our job is must have the highest expectations of every single pupil. It means that every student must make good levels of progress and be supported to strive towards their own personal levels of excellence and these must be communicated back to parents. It also means that the school must work with the community to ensure that our young people experience education in its very widest sense. One major effect of this approach is, we believe, to raise the standards and the ambition of all of our young people and their praise-worthy examination results reflect this emphasis on positive student and teacher attitudes and aspirations.
Though new to the school, on my initial visit, and in the subsequent time spent in school, you cannot fail to be impressed by the atmosphere of the place; the respectful and friendly outlook of everyone you meet is a real confidence-boost when you are deciding who to trust with your child’s future.
