Welcome to Green Families

Green Families is a group of ISB parents working together for the environment. Our main goal is to incorporate eco-friendly practices into our daily lives. We also aim to support ISB's Million Trees Project.

History

It all started at the Green Gala Dinner 2007. An ISB Mum attended and was so inspired to join in the fun, she got a small group meeting monthly to discuss and implement simple ways in which we can change our world.

We decided early on that our focus would be on making our homes more environmentally friendly, so...this is what we did:

Put bricks in our toilet cisterns to save water each time we flush.

Bought or made composters (see contacts) to recycle all our kitchen waste-fruit and vegetable peelings, old rice, bread and pasta etc (and our rubbish bins are no longer stinky!).

Built vegetable gardens to grow our own fresh vegetables and herbs (see contacts).

Recycled all paper and cardboard, tins and cans, bottles and containers.

Always said 'no plastic bag, thankyou' to shop assistants and used reusable bags.

We are still doing these things, they are part of our daily life now. It feels GOOD!

Plans for the Future.

We are currently looking for keen individuals who will be willing to work with other parents as part of Green Families. If you have any ideas, do let us know!
