Students at ISB follow a modified version of the English National Curriculum which offers challenge, breadth, balance and coherence through a wide range of subjects: English, Maths, Science, ICT, Modern Foreign Languages, Art, Humanities, Design and Technology, Music, PE, Drama and Essential Lessons for Life (ELL). The Lower Secondary Years provide a foundation for success in IGCSE and IB examinations, so at ISB we are keen to provide a curriculum that will enable students to achieve success at these levels.
We at ISB feel that one of our greatest strengths is the international make-up of our student body and, the school is capitalizing on this. The academic year 2012/2013 will see the introduction of a new integrated learning experience for Year 7 students. This will include skills development from areas of ICT, Humanities and Art and will be obtained via students studying under umbrella themes. This will provide students with many opportunities for research, investigation and collaborative learning.

Secondary Assessment and Target Setting
The School adopts the use of CEM Testing Tools at the beginning of Year 7, 10 and 12 in order to provide additional information with which to support student development and progress. This information also assists our ability to identify and help our brightest students within the Exceptional Learner programme.

At ISB we continue to provide many extra-curricular activities to provide an all-round education. Each student is a member of one of three 'houses': red, yellow or blue. Student Voice Group is responsible for developing the role of the Houses within the School under the guidance of a member of staff and students obtain House Points via specific events and the regular Tutor Group News Quizzes. A House Trophy is awarded to the team with the most points at the end of each academic year. Sport plays an important part of life at ISB and the School is a member of FOBISSEA (Federation of British International School in South and East Asia) and as such, provides an opportunity for our most able athletes to compete against the best in the region. In recent years, as well as hosting the games we have sent our under 13 and under 15 teams to Thailand and Malaysia. Additionally, we offer a variety of artistic opportunities to students which includes dramatic productions, musical events and in Year 9 the opportunity to become involved in the Borneo Global Issues Conference.
