ISB Centre for Inclusive Learning celebrates students’ achievements
Wednesday, 2nd July 2025 – The International School Brunei (ISB) Centre for Inclusive Learning (CIL) held the inaugural CIL Award Ceremony in Panaga, Kuala Belait this afternoon, celebrating the important achievements of its students.
The ceremony saw a total of 22 Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) Unit Award Scheme certificates in the areas of Cookery, Science, Numeracy, and Literacy presented to seven students.
The AQA Unit Award Scheme allows students to engage with learning and have their achievements formally recognised. Learners are rewarded with a certificate each time they successfully complete a unit of learning, enabling them to build up a portfolio of certificates to evidence their skills, knowledge and experience. The scheme boosts confidence, increases engagement and improves motivation, helping learners to make progress on their lifelong learning journey.
In addition, the event saw 12 students at CIL presented with Most Improved awards, which celebrated personal progress in areas such as expressive language and confidence in social communication.

In opening remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Dominic Morley, the Executive Principal and Chief Executive Officer of ISB, said, “At the heart of our school lies a deep commitment to both academic excellence and genuine inclusion. Today’s awards ceremony is a powerful reminder that every student, in their unique way, can achieve greatness. I am immensely proud of the determination, curiosity, and growth we see across our community. These achievements are not only a testament to individual effort, but also to ISB’s culture that truly celebrates every learner.”
Meanwhile, Ms. Suzie Rush, Head of Inclusion at ISB and the Head of CIL, said, “This award ceremony reflects the core values of CIL. Each day, we celebrate the individual strengths of our pupils and the progress they make. These awards recognise different ways of learning as valuable strengths and mark meaningful achievements on the journey towards greater confidence and independence.”

“We will be expanding our AQA Awards subjects in the next academic year. The scheme is open to all students aged 10 and above at CIL. They lay the foundations for future courses, including Entry Level Certificates (ELCs) and qualifications accredited by Training Qualifications UK (TQUK), to be introduced next year,” added Ms. Rush.
CIL is a specialist provision within ISB that is focused on supporting students with additional learning needs. Launched in January 2021, CIL is located in Panaga, Kuala Belait. This excellently resourced Centre is the first of its kind in Brunei Darussalam, with learning areas carefully designed to promote a sense of safety and engagement in learning, with specialist support in communication, sensory, cognition, and emotional development.
ISB recently announced that a new Centre for Inclusive Learning will be opened near ISB’s main school campus in Kampong Sungai Hanching in 2026, bringing the same level of highly effective and respected specialist support to students in the Brunei-Muara district.
