Physical Education
At the heart of our faculty is a dedicated team of experienced professionals committed to shaping healthy, active lifestyles. Through the PE curriculum and wider learning opportunities, the PE faculty offers a diverse and exciting programme to support an enjoyable, enriching, and holistic education at ISB.
Early Years
In Pre-Kindy and Kindy, our students have weekly swimming lessons under the care and supervision of experienced, qualified swimming coaches and NPLQ lifeguards. In Key Stage One (KS1), students enjoy weekly swimming lessons which further develop water confidence, water safety and stroke development.
In addition, KS1 students actively participate in weekly PE lessons which cover a diverse range of sports and activities such as rock climbing, fundamentals of movement and games.
Broad and Balanced
From Year 3 – Year 11, all students have two lessons of PE per week which develops knowledge and understanding through a broad and balanced PE and swimming curriculum. Our examined PE course starts in Year 10.
In addition to CORE PE, students can opt to study IGCSE PE which is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the physiology and psychology that underpins sports performance. In addition to the theoretical element, students will refine their technical and tactical skills with likeminded students.
In Year 12, the faculty offers Sport and Exercise Health Science (SEHS) at both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). SEHS forms part of the IB Diploma programme and is an excellent gateway to higher education or a career in the field of sports science or sports industry.
Inclusive and Competitive
Our inclusive ethos is evident through all aspects of PE and our ECA programme. For those willing to take a risk, our Interhouse sports events, annual Swimming Gala and Sports Day provide a great stepping stone for those wishing to represent ISB in our Inter-school sports programme.
Through our involvement in the Brunei Junior Sports League (BJSL) and secondary fixtures, our dedicated and talented students have an opportunity to compete regularly against both local and International schools.
On the global stage
Our elite performers and most able athletes have an opportunity to represent ISB at the prestigious FOBISIA Games in Thailand. ISB attends the U11, U13 and U15 FOBISIA Games in which ISB have enjoyed being part of for many years. The FOBISIA Games provides an opportunity to compete on an International stage against students from schools in Thailand, Vietnam, China, and Malaysia.
In addition to the FOBISIA Games, our high performing swimmers, many of which train with ISB’s very own Hammerheads swimming club, travel to compete in the annual International FOBISIA Swimming Championships.
“We hope that you will join us on our exhilarating, challenging, and
rewarding journey in which everyone excels.”
Mr. Phil Morley. Head of PE, ISB
